ALTIUS AVIATOR SUNGLASSES FOR RADIO CONTROL MODEL FLYING

Allsports British-designed aviator sunglasses for radio control model flying combine strength, style, comfort and cutting edge lens technology. Altius are supplied with a range of lens colors, in polarized and non polarized formats, as follows:

  • Red category 2 lenses, non polarized
  • Grey category 3 lenses, non polarized
  • Red category 3 lenses, polarized
  • Grey category 3 lenses, polarized
  • Green category 3 lenses, polarized

Altius have a build quality and feature list that makes them outstanding value for money when compared to alternative high-end brands.

The Frame

Manufactured from a tough nickel-silver alloy, the top quality Altius frame is extremely robust, with sprung side arms and solid hinges that do not exhibit the slop associated with cheaper sunglasses. Adjustable nose pads and rubber side arm extensions enhance comfort levels. Finished in an attractive silver color.

The Lenses

Utilizing Rapid Allsports Multi Layer technology, Altius lenses are packed with features. Made from impact-resistant poly-carbonate, the lenses are finished with a flash mirror coating.

The red category 2 option is ideal for use in fairly bright, changeable or hazy conditions. These sunglasses are also extremely useful for driving when you are dealing with low sun. Category 2 lenses filter less light than standard category 3 lenses - they can be used in bright sunlight too but will be less effective for such conditions. The category 2 lenses have an anti-glare coating on the rear surface, meaning that even without a polarized filter, the levels of glare experienced will be reduced.

All of the category 3 options are for use in regular, bright sunlight. The non-polarized grey option features an anti-glare coating on the rear surface but for the ultimate in glare reduction, we recommend our polarized sunglasses.

Glare is caused by the sun's rays bouncing off horizontal surfaces, including clouds, wing surfaces etc. Polarized lenses remove glare by filtering out this horizontal light. Polarized lenses can be manufactured in one of two ways - cheaper sunglasses have filters stuck on to the front of the lens, and this does work to a large extent but for optimum performance the filters need to be built in to the lenses. Altius has this feature, providing the very best glare reduction possible. Please note you may not be able to read a transmitter screen when wearing polarized sunglasses.

The Altius lenses have a hard coating to make them as scratch resistant as possible. They also benefit from hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings, which resist grease and water.

By filtering blue light from the spectrum, Altius lenses improve depth perception and contrast, making it easier to judge the terrain ahead.

Prescription Options (Grey Lenses Only)

Please note that mirror lenses are not supplied as standard with our prescription options. Also note that the prescription lenses are not supplied with oleophobic or hydrophobic coatings. The non polarized prescription lenses will have an anti glare coating added.

From the date of order it will take around 2 - 3 weeks to complete and ship the sunglasses to you. Orders with the flash mirror coating will take a little longer than the standard options.

Pupillary Distance (PD)

This is the distance, in milli-metres, between the pupils of your eyes, when measured across the front of your glasses. PD's typically fall in the range of 55 up to 70mm. If you choose to have us make up your prescription sunglasses, we will need to know your PD. Opticians measure PD during an eye test, but they often do not put the result on a prescription card provided to the patient. If you do not know your PD, please ask your optician what it is. Unfortunately, some opticians will not release the measurement and in the UK, they are not obliged to do so.

You can measure your own PD easily. With your regular glasses on, ask someone to hold a ruler up against your glasses and measure off, in millimetres, the distance between the centres of your pupils.

Conformity and UV

Allsports sunglasses conform to ISO 12311 and 12312 standards for sunglasses and protective equipment testing. They offer 100% UVA / UVB (UV400) protection and comply with US Z80.3.Green mirror lens polarised aviators photo green-pol-set_zps1307018e.jpg
