ALTIUS AVIATOR SUNGLASSES FOR PILOTS

All Sports European-designed aviators combine strength, style, comfort
and cutting edge lens technology to provide you with the ultimate
sunglasses for pilots. Available with red or grey lenses - see below for
more details. If required, you can also order a full prescription
service for the grey pair (also see below).
Altius have a build
quality and feature list that makes them outstanding value for money
when compared to alternative high-end brands.
The Frame
Manufactured from a tough nickel silver, the top quality Altius frame
is extremely robust, with solid sprung hinges that do not exhibit the
slop associated with cheaper sunglasses. Adjustable nose pads and rubber
side arm extensions enhance comfort levels. Finished in an attractive
silver colour. The side arms are indented to ensure they fit comfortably
beneath a headset.
The Lenses
Utilising Rapid Eyewear's Multi Layer technology, Altius lenses are
packed with features. Made from impact resistant polycarbonate, the
lenses are finished with a flash mirror coating that makes them look
very attractive whilst reducing extreme light that can cause problems at
altitude.
We are pleased to offer two versions
of Altius. The Category 2 red lens set is ideal for fairly bright or
changeable conditions; the grey category 3 lens is for bright sunshine.
Altius
lenses have a hard coating to make them as scratch resistant as
possible. They also benefit from hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings,
which resist grease and water.
By filtering blue light from the
spectrum, Altius lenses improve depth perception and contrast, making it
easier to judge the terrain and sky ahead and below.

Prescription Options
We
can add your prescription lenses to Altius if required - please note
this service is only available for the grey category 3 pair. To select a
prescription option, use the drop-down menu at the top of this page,
then enter your details in the boxes that appear. We can only add
prescription strengths up to plus or minus 4.5 SPH - this is a strict
rule, so please do not order this product if your requirements exceed
4.5. You can choose from the following options (please note that a
mirror finish is not added as standard):
- Single-vision without flash mirror coating
- Single-vision with flash mirror coating
- Bifocal without flash mirror coating
- Bifocal with flash mirror coating
The
lenses we use are C39, a material renowned for its robustness, opacity
and anti-scratch properties. An anti-reflective coating is added to the
rear of the lenses - please note the prescription lenses do not have
oleophobic and hydrophobic coatings.
From the date of order it
will take around 1-2 weeks to complete and ship the sunglasses to you.
Orders with the flash mirror coating will take a little longer than the
standard options.
Pupillary Distance (PD)
This is the distance, in millimetres, between the pupils of your eyes,
when measured across the front of your glasses. PD's typically fall in
the range of 55 up to 70mm. If you choose to have us make up your
prescription sunglasses, we will need to know your PD. Opticians measure
PD during an eye test, but they often do not put the result on a
prescription card provided to the patient. If you do not know your PD,
please ask your optician what it is. Unfortunately, some opticians will
not release the measurement and in the USA, they are not obliged to do
so.
You can measure your own PD easily. With your regular glasses
on, ask someone to hold a ruler up against your glasses and measure
off, in millimetres, the distance between the centres of your pupils.
